MDBA Annual Business Excellence Awards. 20 Years Serving Malaga BusinessThe Malaga and Districts Business Association had much to celebrate at this year’s Business Excellence Awards, president Rod Henderson said. From its inception the awards has seen growth in the number of applicants and is a demonstration of the outstanding quality of businesses in the area.
In its 20th year serving Malaga business, the MDBA welcomed Mayor Charlie Zannino who announced the overall City of Swan award winner, Goodwill Engineering.
Mr Phil Pitchers, general manager outlined the long history that Goodwill Engineering had in the Malaga industrial estate and their membership with the MDBA from its inception. Mr Pitchers praised his staff and team for building a strong organisation which holds its roots in support of cerebral palsy workers.
Mr Henderson recognised the sponsors and said without their generous support the event could not be staged. He thanked City of Swan, Small Business Development Corporation, Commonwealth Bank, Australian Institute of Workplace Training, Westpac Bank, Business Growth Centre, Eastern Reporter Community News, Bunnings and Malaga Print and Copy.
Of the three raffle prizes donated by Bunnings, Cr Haynes won the gas heater and in turn donated it to the Dungeon Youth Centre.
Youth/Employment and Training Award, sponsored by the Australia-International Institute of Workplace Training – Goodwill Engineering, runner up - Ray Makene’s Driving School.
Best Manufacturing Award, sponsored by Malaga Print and Copy - Perth Window and Door Replacement Company, runner up - Benchmark Engineering.
Environmentally Friendly Award, sponsored by Bunnings - Goodwill Engineering, runner up Perth Web Design.
Best Professional Services Award, sponsored by Small Business Development Corporation - DCN Solutions, runner up - Perth Web Design.
Best Retail, sponsored by Commonwealth Bank - VIP Pool Care, runner up Malaga Post Office.
Community Services Award, sponsored by the Community Newspaper Eastern Reporter - Native Animal Rescue, runner up - The Dungeon Youth Centre.
Best Business under 20 employees, sponsored by the Business Growth Centre - Bullet Signs and Print, equal runners up - Acclaimed Catering and Dungeon Youth Centre.
Best Business Over 20 Employees, sponsored by Westpac Business Banking - Atama Furniture, runner up - Ballajura Community College.
This year the MDBA recognise Employee of the Year Mr Phill Roberts - Stirling Skills Training Centre
The Judges Anne Furey of Grant Smart, Jay Roberts of 10x and Tim Riessen of Central Institute of Technology were thanked for the difficult task of determining the applicants.
The gala event is now a regular addition to the extensive services that the MDBA provides members and the wider Malaga business district. Not only do the awards highlight the business but they are also recognition of the people that make up the business.
