Workskills Training Program

Balga Detached Youth Work Project Inc (BDYWP) is a non profit, charitable  community based organisation which has been operating within the Shire’s of Swan, Wanneroo and Stirling since 1978. BDYWP has successfully provided a range of Youth Work services to high risk young people who need support and guidance to reach their potential.

A recent initiative of BDYWP is the WORKSKILLS TRAINING PROGRAM.  The WORKSKILLS TRAINING PROGRAM is an intensive lifeskills and work readiness program which focuses upon engaging at-risk young people, not suited to mainstream education services, into a productive day program in order to improve their levels of employability.  The employability skills development program seeks to encourage young people to set individual goals and consider future career aspirations.

The proposed WORKSKILLS TRAINING PROGRAM for 2008 centres upon an exciting partnership BDYWP has established with the Fauna Rehabilitation Foundation (FRF) located at 170 Camboon Road, Malaga.  The program will operate within the FRF site in an adjoining shed complex.

Practical work based activites within the actual Shed and surrounding Shed site have a range of possibilities and the potential for a range of organisations and local businesses to work in collaboration.

In order to make the program a success and meet the needs of local services, BDYWP is seeking support from interested businesses within the Malaga and Districts Business Association.

In particular we are looking to connect with local employers to discuss opportunities which provide young people with work exprience placements and/or employment.

BDYWP is also seeking support from interested businesses who are able to contribute to the delivery of the program through the donation of goods and services.  Various building materials, advice and the provision of on-site training are sought to enable young people to undertake practical workplace activities which include:

•           Horticulture/Landscaping (Land clearing,paving,laying/maintaining lawns & gardens)
•           Building & Construction (Brickwork, plastering, outdoor BBQ and pergola area, limestone walls, concreting, carpentry, fencing, shade house construction)
•           Cabinet making (Office desks, shelving, benches, kitchen renovation)
•           Metal work (Shed construction, shelving)
•           Small business centre (Nursery establishment)
We welcome the opportunity to meet and discuss further plans as to how we may work together to best support local business, young people and the community.

I look forward to meeting and hearing from you in the near future.
